Volunteer
Help us bring comfort, stability and a delicious "home" cooked meal to our guests . Every meal served, every warm welcome and every moment of kindness creates the home-away-from-home our guests depend on. When you volunteer, you’re not just giving up your time; you’re becoming part of a community that lifts families during some of their hardest days. Your support makes all the difference.

Breakfast and Dinner, Daily
When you blend the love of a homecooked meal with the warmth of community, it nourishes more than just the body.
Volunteers particpating in the Comfort & Care Meal Program will plan, prepare, and serve meals to the families staying with us.
This opportunity is perfect for individuals, families, or small groups who want to combine their love of cooking with giving back.
Key Responsibilities
Thank you for volunteering to provide a meal! Your time and care make a meaningful difference to our guests. Here’s what to expect when you serve with us:
Be Guest Focused
• Our guests may be experiencing medical stress—kindness and empathy go a long way.
• Guest numbers can change daily, so flexibility is appreciated.
• Anyone who is feeling unwell should not participate in food prep or service.
Prepare & Serve with Care
• Meals must be prepared on site in one of our two kitchens.
• Volunteers will plate hot items for the guests; then guests can add any of the cold items, sides or condiments.
• At the end of meal service, leftover entrees will be packaged into “to go” meals for guests unable to attend during the regular meal service time.
Clean Up
• After meal preparation or service, we expect that your group clean and sanitize the kitchen, dining area, and any tools used.
• Two dishwashers are available for dishwasher safe items. Refer to the item list in the kitchen for items that are to be hand-washed – including pots and pans and JoJo’s Kitchen logoed mugs.
• Stove tops should be cleaned using the approved cleaner only.
Participant Guidelines
To help ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone, please review the following guidelines:

• Up to 8 volunteers may be in the kitchen for meal preparation and up to 6 volunteers may be in the kitchen during dinner service.
• Volunteers must be 13 years or older;
• No more than 3 volunteers under age 18 per group; minors must be always supervised.
Dress Code
• Wear closed toed, non slip shoes, and clothing appropriate for a community, shared kitchen setting. No loose or draping sleeves or midriff barring clothing should be worn. Hair should be pulled back during meal prep and service.
Arrival & Check In
• Park in the rear lot and ring the front porch doorbell.
• Upon arrival, volunteers will sign in digitally and complete any outstanding waivers.

Door to Door
We rely on safety minded volunteer shuttle drivers to help us to provide rides to and from nearby medical facilities in our HavenHouse passenger van. All drivers must be willing to submit to a full Motor Vehicle Record and Background Check to operate our shuttle.
guest relations support
From helping our housekeeping team catch up with their never ending to-do lists or helping as an extra set of hands to organize and clean one of our shared spaces - volunteers helping around the house are invaluble to our guests in helping us to create and maintain a warm, inviting and safe place to rest and recover.
