Baby Nick's Story
My son was born with bilateral clubfoot, meaning he has two club feet. We started casting him at five days old to fix his feet. After six castings we had a tenotomy and after that his casts kept slipping off. Our doctor suggested another surgery and full body cast. We decided to get a second opinion. After much research and talking to other moms we found Dr. Dobbs in St. Louis, one of the absolute best. After emailing with him, he said he could fix our son's feet in two weeks with 3-4 cast changes.
We set out to figure out how we were going to get from Pittsburgh, PA to St. Louis and where we would stay for two weeks. We decided to take the 9 1/2 hour drive with a three month old and a 20 month old and were given a list of places where we could stay. Two weeks was going to be a fortune at a hotel and then we found out my husband would be gone for work and I was going to have to manage our two kids, alone, in an unfamiliar city. When I was researching, I found HavenHouse and knew this would be our best option. A safe place for me to stay alone with my kids, two meals a day so I didn't need to eat fast food for two weeks or cook meals, and options to entertain my toddler. Our nurse set us up with HavenHouse and we couldn't be happier!
HavenHouse gave us a safe place to stay while my son was receiving treatment. We had freedom to come and go and not worry about meals. They were extremely accommodating for our specific situation and took some stress off of me keeping track of a toddler while having a three month old. The staff has been friendly and my daughter has loved all the attention she's been given. HavenHouse was very affordable. This has been a lifesaver for me. This two week trip would have been so much more stressful if not for HavenHouse. I don't have words for how grateful I am to have this place and all of the amazing people who work here. I describe HavenHouse as a miracle!
